Hosting Solutions from Global Crossing, Expand in London Data Center

Florham Park, New Jersey - (The Hosting News) - September 8, 2008 - IP solutions provider, Global Crossing, has expanded services in its London data center at Docklands, by making available monitoring, backup, security, server management and storage managed service solutions.

Specifically, Hitachi Data Systems data storage capabilities have been deployed. The company also announced plans to expand its London facility and to open a new data center in Amsterdam. The company's Docklands data center is nearly filled to capacity with 89 percent of the available space sold.

As a result, Global Crossing has embarked on Phase II of that build-out and already has pre-sold 10 percent of the additional racks available to prospective customers. In addition, a new center in Amsterdam is part of the firm's plans to continue the modular development of its hosting solutions business in Europe. The Amsterdam facility will be available in early 2009.

Anthony Christie, Managing Director, EMEA noted, ''Global Crossing is focused on corporate customers, and we're investing in the value-added services that are essential to them, such as the hosting solutions we provide through our data centers. Our customers include more than 130 UK government departments and agencies, as well as the transportation and commercial segments. As the largest IT and data market in Europe, meeting the needs of the UK market gives us unprecedented opportunities. But we also plan to explore other opportunities throughout Europe so we can extend our already extensive network footprint.''

Among the expanded capabilities now available from the London data center are resilient storage infrastructure solutions underpinned by Hitachi Data Systems hardware and software. By partnering with an industry-leading storage provider, Global Crossing is enabling its customers to address their data storage challenges in a highly cost effective manner. Information has never been more critical to the survival of a business.

The explosive growth of data-intensive applications and an increasing reliance on information as a competitive differentiator have made data storage a central component of corporate strategies. These enhanced capabilities can help Global Crossing address the concerns of IT organizations, including availability and speed of access to data and the ability to securely share data inside and outside of the enterprise. Global Crossing's growing data center footprint currently offers world-class facilities in 60 major cities worldwide to provide businesses access to critical customers and business partners. Global Crossing housing facilities allow customers to seamlessly link sites to virtually any location around the world within the reach and capacity of one of the world's most extensive global IP networks.

The benefits of Global Crossing colocation facilities also include receiving consistent and similar services throughout the world and the ease of one-stop shopping for ICT, On-Demand and Continuity solutions. Global Crossing also offers solutions that allow customers to focus on their businesses while Global Crossing manages and administers the entire IT infrastructure and network for them. Global Crossing's hosting solutions provide customers housing, equipment, storage, backup and monitoring, as well as managed services that free them to run their application or web site.

On-Demand Solutions let customers use what they need when they need it, including network capacity, storage, processing power and managed services. They enable customers to respond rapidly and adequately to the demands of their clients or other business opportunities. Global Crossing Continuity Solutions provide preventive tools and redundancy capabilities that keep businesses running or help minimize any potential economic losses caused by an unexpected incident. Interruptions in service could be caused by natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, or floods, or by social problems, fires or technology problems.

Several of Global Crossing's data centers in Latin America have received a Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) 70 review, which is a widely recognized auditing standard that evaluates the design and operating effectiveness of controls that have specific objectives, such as the security of financial information.

This review, which Global Crossing will consider for its European data center facilities, is especially important to large businesses and is being increasingly accepted by government organizations and private companies that seek an independent opinion to confirm the effectiveness of a provider's processes and internal controls structure. It also simplifies their auditing processes and potentially can save them time and reduce their costs.

Global Crossing provides telecommunications solutions over the world's first integrated global IP-based network. Its core network connects approximately 400 cities in more than 45 countries worldwide, and delivers services to more than 690 cities in more than 60 countries and 6 continents around the globe.

Global Crossing IP services are global in scale, linking the world's enterprises, governments and carriers with customers, employees and partners worldwide in a secure environment that is ideally suited for IP-based business applications, allowing e-commerce to thrive. The company offers a full range of data, voice and security products to approximately 40 percent of the Fortune 500, as well as 700 carriers, mobile operators and ISPs. Its Professional Services and Managed Solutions provide VoIP, security and network consulting and management services to support its Global Crossing IP VPN service and Global Crossing VoIP services. Web Hosting Industry Survey Covers Resellers, Social Networking

Toronto, Canada - (The Hosting News) - September 5, 2008 - The results of an industry survey, conducted by Tucows Inc.'s reseller services group, OpenSRS at the HostingCon 2008 conference in Chicago last month, have been released.

Survey findings revealed resellers of email and domain names are missing significant business opportunities to tap into social network users. Of the respondents, 60% have their own blog or personal website, and nearly three-fourths use social networks like Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, Twitter and FriendFeed to share information with friends and family.

Ken Schafer, Vice President of Product Management and Marketing for Tucows noted, ''While the web hosting industry does not view social networks as a threat to its business, people are going to functional-hosts for services that allow them to share information online. This demonstrates that there are opportunities for web hosts to tap into consumers who embrace social networks - but these opportunities are being overlooked by the very industry that knows the Internet best.''

The survey revealed, that despite the majority of people using social networking services, 81% of the respondents in the web hosting industry do not believe these 'web 2.0' or functional-hosting businesses could hurt their business.

Mr. Schafer added, ''It's important that as the web hosting industry moves forward, we understand that Internet users are seeking a customized, personalized, Internet experience for both personal and professional reasons. Ultimately, it's about customer relationships. Providers and resellers need to work together to provide the support, services and infrastructure that give users the best experience.''

Other results of the survey revealed that 73% of all domain name resellers enjoy working with their provider. In addition, three-fourths of domain name resellers believe their provider understands its needs and nearly one-half have no complaints with their provider, but of those that did, the top complaints were poor communication or support and lack of the full range of services their customers want.

Mr. Schafer noted, ''It's always great to receive positive feedback from the industry - OpenSRS has made a strong commitment to our reseller community because they have been incredibly supportive of us. By making it easy to sell and manage the highest quality Internet services, we give our resellers the tools they need to be successful.''

In 1999, Tucows became the first domain name wholesaler to be accredited by ICANN and chose the name OpenSRS for its domain name service. Recently relaunched to celebrate its resellers sustained loyalty, OpenSRS today remains one of the world's largest wholesale domain registrars as well as the most reseller-friendly, and has expanded its offerings to include hosted email and SSL certificates. OpenSRS has grown steadily each year and today boasts over 9,000 active resellers on six continents. Those resellers, in turn, have the potential to reach millions of end users.

OpenSRS is a global provider of wholesale Internet services to web hosting companies and ISPs. Wholly owned by Tucows, Inc., OpenSRS provides wholesale services for hosted email, domain name registration, Personal Names, and SSL certificates.
